Technology advances in many fields of expertise suggest creative applications for future uses of CLs. And perhaps most exciting for clinicians is the use of CLs to control the advancement of myopia in young people, with some even suggesting that they may be able to prevent the onset of myopia. Contact lenses promise new ways to deliver topical ocular and systemic drugs and to detect, treat, and monitor systemic conditions such as diabetes (e.g., Google CL). This Optometry and Vision Science ( OVS) Feature Issue, “Revolutionary Future Uses of Contact Lenses,” will highlight the advances in the prescribing of CLs far beyond their traditional uses.
